The good news: The Lakers won Friday night to maintain their hold on the West's eight-seed.

The bad news: They may have lost something much, much more important.

Per Ken Berger of CBSSports.com, the Lakers say Kobe Bryant suffered a "probable" torn left Achilles in the fourth quarter of their 118-116 win over the Warriors.

Following the game, on crutches with reported tears in his eyes, Kobe told reporters, "Terrible. This is a terrible feeling ... Just s--- luck."

Bryant will have an MRI Saturday to confirm the initial diagnosis.

"I'm just tired, man," Bryant said. "This is a long mountain to overcome."

Kobe, who is in his 17th season, has taken on an incredibly heavy workload the past few weeks as the Lakers have been in a dogfight for that final playoff spot. His last six games, Kobe averaged 45.6 minutes including going the full 48 in two of those and 47 in another two.

Bryant, a five-time champion, one-time MVP, and 15-time All-Star, averaged 27.3 points, 6.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds in 77 games for the Lakers entering Friday's game. When he left against the Warriors, he had 34, including a signature late bucket to put L.A. up two.

Said Pau Gasol: "He doesn't deserve it."

A torn Achilles typically requires surgery and a recovery time of 8-12 months, depending on the person.

"MRI, surgery and then recovery," Kobe said when asked of his next steps.

The natural question is if this is the last we've seen of Kobe Bean. A devastating injury at 34 years old is a pretty significant setback, but this is Kobe Bryant.

"It's fueling me. It's fueling me," Bryant said. "I can feel it already."
