Dwight Howard stinks at free-throw shooting. This isn't breaking news. For his career, he's a 57.7-percent shooter from the stripe and hit only 49.2 percent of his foul shots this past season.
So, to prove a point, I guess, Los Angeles Times columnist T.J. Simers challenged Howard to a free-throw shooting contest. But with a catch: It's Simers' daughter, Kelly, vs. Howard. And, for some reason, Howard volunteered to shoot left-handed.
(Here's my theory as to why: because Howard was nervous he'd lose if he shot right-handed. So, by going lefty, he gave himself an excuse to lose and could save face if he did. Kind of shows you the confidence that Howard has in his free-throw shooting. He tells Simers it's all a mental thing.)
Kelly ends up winning, hitting five of 10 with Howard going 3 for 9. After Howard loses, Simers asks him if the Lakers have a psychiatrist on staff. Well, oddly enough, they do and Howard admitted to seeing one.
Probably didn't help that Kelly was roasting him pretty good with things like, "Kobe thinks you're soft," right as he was shooting. Ouch.
Howard's loss means he has to donate $5,000 to charity (same as a flopping fine!) and live with the shame of losing.
But, then again, are we surprised?
