Danny Green breaks NBA Finals 3-point record

By Royce Young | NBA writer

SAN ANTONIO -- Danny Green has put his name in the NBA record books.

With a 3-pointer in the third quarter of Game 5 on Sunday, Green set the NBA Finals record for most 3s made in a series, putting him at 25-38 so far. That's almost 70 percent. That's wow.

The record he broke? It was held by current opponent Ray Allen, who set it in 2008 with the Boston Celtics, making 22 against the Lakers in seven games.

"Luckily, it seems everything is going right for me," Green said. "I'm feeling truly blessed right now. There's got to be a Higher Power. I owe it all to God. The basketball gods are in our favor right now."

Green hit an incredible 7-9 from deep in Game 3, sparking an impressive 36-point Spurs blowout. He also hit 5-5 from 3 in Miami's Game 2 blowout.

"I'm keeping focus on playing basketball," Green said at practice Saturday. "I'm not worried about catching any records. I'm worried about helping my team and playing well and helping us win a game. The numbers are things I don't like to reflect on or look back on. I don't want to jinx it, but at this point numbers really don't matter."

Green was asked if he aware how close he was to history the other day at practice. He preferred to stay in the dark about it.

"No, I don't want to be aware of it," he said. "But thanks."

Let's all take a moment and remember that since he entered the league out of North Carolina in 2009 Green has been twice cut in his NBA career, and he has played for two different D-League teams.

Now he owns an NBA Finals record.

And if the Spurs go on to win this series? He might be an NBA Finals MVP, too.
