Report: Monta Ellis to opt out, may seek team-up with Dwight Howard

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

Bucks G Monta Ellis will reportedly opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent next month, according to ESPN. The move in and of itself isn't surprising given Ellis' comments about his belief in his ability and what he will command on the open market. He stands to be one of the best perimeter players available outside of Chris Paul.

What is interesting is the ESPN report that Ellis is close with Lakers C Dwight Howard and may seek to team up with the big fella if Howard and Paul are unable to find a landing spot together. That could push Ellis to somewhere like Dallas or Atlanta in their pursuit of Howard to try and lure the All-Star center.

Ellis averaged 19 points, four rebounds, and six assists last season with Milwaukee. Previous reports have suggested the Bucks plan to attempt to re-sign Ellis as a free agent and let restricted free agent Brandon Jennings walk.
