Bulls general manager downplays friction with Thibodeau

By Royce Young | NBA writer

After not retaining Ron Adams, Tom Thibodeau's top assistant in Chicago, it was pretty widely believed there was some tension brewing between Thibodeau and Bulls general manager Gar Forman.

But according to Forman, everything is good, y'all.

"The decision was made by me because I felt it was the best decision for the Bulls going forward," Forman said, via the Associated Press.

Adams, who is widely regarded as one of the best assistants and defensive coaches in the league, had been with the Bulls since 2010 after a brief stint with the Thunder. Before that, he spent five seasons in Chicago (2003-04 through '07-08). But with Adams' contract up, Forman decided not to keep Thibodeau's right-hand man.

Head coaches typically assemble their staff. In this case, the Bulls' GM made the case, which is unusual. And led to the assumption that something was potentially amiss.

"Here's what I don't want to get into," Forman said. "We make tens if not hundreds of decisions every year. I don't think we want to evaluate every decision, who's on board. We communicate about every decision, and at the end of the day, I've got to make the decisions I feel are best for this organization moving forward. We'll unite, and we'll move forward. Tom makes the decisions on the floor. He's our head coach. I think he's as good a coach as there is in the NBA. He does a great job."

Thibodeau signed a four-year extension with the Bulls last fall. It wasn't said to be a contentious negotiation, but it certainly didn't go smoothly.

"Do I agree with absolutely every decision he makes?" Forman continued. "We'll communicate: probably not. But at the end of the day, I'm going to support the decisions he makes and I think he's going to support decisions that I make. As long as once they're made, we unite and move forward because the goal is to continue to get this team better and to compete for a championship."

So, see everyone? It's no big deal.
