The Washington Wizards reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with free agent backup PG Eric Maynor on Monday, according to the Washington Post and NBA.com. The deal is reportedly two years, at the bi-annual exception (starting at $2.016 million in 2013-14).

Maynor was a promising young point guard in Utah before being traded to Oklahoma City. He flourished there, before tearing his ACL. He never fully recovered from that tear and was traded to Portland at the deadline, averaging seven points and four assists in just 21 minutes per game for the Blazers in 27 contests.

The move gives the Wizards a solid, consistent backup under the age of 28 for John Wall, and it provides some athleticism off the bench as well. Last season featured a cadre of underwhelming options for Washington, including able-bodied-but-limited A.J. Price, among others. Maynor should do well in Washington, which looks primed for a playoff run. No, really. I know we always say that but for real this time.

Good pickup for the Wizards.
