Hawks sign No. 17 overall pick Dennis Schroeder

By Eye on Basketball staff

The Hawks have signed No. 17 overall pick Dennis Schroeder, a 6-foot-1 point guard who was playing professionally in Germany.

Schroeder, who tweeted the news, might be needed sooner than later if the Hawks don't match the four-year, $32 million offer sheet starting point guard Jeff Teague signed Thursday with Milwaukee. After Teague, the Hawks have Shelvin Mack at point guard, though Lou Williams also can play the position.

Schroeder averaged 11.9 points and 3.3 assists in 24.7 minutes for New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig in Germany's Beko League last season.

The 19-year-old Schroeder was taken one spot after the Hawks drafted Brazilian center Lucas Nogueira. There was no word on his signing yet.
