Report: Mavericks' deal with Devin Harris scrapped over injury

The Dallas Mavericks' three-year, $9-million deal with Devin Harris is off due to a toe injury that is expected to keep Harris out until the start of the regular season, ESPN reports.

That development, along with first-round pick Shane Larkin's ankle injury, puts the Mavericks down to just Jose Calderon and Israeli rookie Gal Mekel as their point guard options, potentially even to start the season. The only upside is that they signed Monta Ellis, because, you know, that's who you want as your distributor. ESPN reports that the team will revisit the deal with Harris when the injury heals, but for now is continuing its pursuit of center Samuel Dalembert.

So all in all, not a great day for Dallas, despite signing their big free-agent target Ellis. Losing two point guards in one afternoon is never a good way to start your weekend.
