Samuel Dalembert agrees to two-year deal with Mavericks

By Royce Young | NBA writer

After missing out on Dwight Howard, something owner Mark Cuban tried to say he was relieved by, the Mavericks have found a different big man to sign.

The Mavs announced Friday they have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with free-agent center Samuel Dalembert. The deal is reportedly for two years and worth $7.5 million, according to the report, though the second year is only partially guaranteed.

The Mavs have been aggressively pursuing big men on the open market, even targeting Greg Oden, but have found their likely starting center in Dalembert. Currently under contract at center, the Mavs only have second-year player Bernard James.

Dalembert was once a premier defender inside and while he still has some of that -- check those highlights out above -- he's not quite the same player he was in his 20s. He can still protect the rim and be a force on the offensive glass, which is really all the Mavs are looking for. He's not Dwight Howard, but according to Cuban, he doesn't have to be. (Riiiiiiight.)

Dalembert, 32, spent last season with the Bucks, averaging 6.7 points and 5.9 rebounds in 47 games.
