Report: Knicks in talks to add Ivan Johnson, Jannero Pargo

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

ESPN New York reports that the Knicks are interested in both Ivan Johnson and Jannero Pargo as they look to finish out their roster after a busy 2013 offseason.

The Knicks traded for Andrea Bargnani in early July, re-signed J.R. Smith and Pablo Prigioni, and added Metta World Peace after he was waived using the amnesty clause by the Lakers. Johnson, a 6-8, 29-year-old forward who has played in the D-League and Korea earlier in his career, averaged seven points and four rebounds in fifteen minutes per game last season for Atlanta.

He's a menacing figure down low who has also had some locker room troubles, including fines from the team two years ago.

Pargo, a 33-year-old guard, averaged seven points and two assists last season for three different teams. I often joke that it's an immutable law of the NBA that Jannero Pargo must be on an NBA roster at some point during the season, if only for a few games. He's played for eight different franchises in his nine-year career.

Johnson makes a lot of sense for the Knicks, as he gives them a younger version of tough and brash Kenyon Martin, and he's willing to give the hard fouls down low they needed vs. Indiana. Pargo gives them another wing shooter which is not really a need, but they could use a few more ball-handlers for depth.
