Eye on Basketball Podcast: Utah Jazz offseason and flexibility

By Zach Harper | NBA writer

I'm joined by Matt Moore today to discuss the efforts of the Utah Jazz since the trade deadline. The Jazz have managed to not get caught up in spending for players that aren't in their plan just to spend available cap room and have instead opted to continue to add to their young core and maintain their flexibility. This is part of the reason Matt Moore gave them a B+ on their offseason report. Is it the right move? Should they have traded their future free agents Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson at some point during the trade deadline? Is what they have going forward encouraging?

Since they traded Deron Williams to the Brooklyn Nets, we've learned that their haul for moving their franchise player was actually really good. Both the Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic seem to be in similar boats since trading Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard, respectively. If you're going to move your superstar in fear of them leaving, is there a way to maximize your haul without compromising your long-term and short-term goals?

We discuss all of this, plus Shabazz Muhammad, Pacific Rim, and our next movie idea.
