Pelicans center Stiemsma says he wants to start in New Orleans

Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma said he's looking to emerge as a starter for the first time in his career and be a defensive stopper

The first thing could work out, it just depends on if coach Monty Williams wants to throw his young star Anthony Davis to the center wolves off the bat or not. The Pelicans traded Robin Lopez this summer to make room for Tyreke Evans, leaving a huge hole down low. But Jason Smith, should he be healthy, will have the best chance of nabbing that spot. Smith's an underrated player at both ends of the floor.

Furthermore, Stiemsma's good for some momentum-turning blocks but his overall defense needs work. He's got little to no offensive game. If he winds up as a starter, either something has gone terribly wrong or Stiemsma has taken a major step forward.
