Heat exercise 2014-2015 option on Norris Cole

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

The Miami Heat announced on Tuesday that the've exercised the 2014-2015 option on point guard Norris Cole. Cole averaged six points and two assists on 42 percent shooting in 20 minutes per game last season, and six points and two assists per game in the playoffs on 48 percent shooting.

The numbers don't really reflect what Cole provided last season. He was a sparkplug on both ends last season, able to make plays in transition and a pest full-court, much in the way that Zach Harper outlined Tuesday in a feature. He gets up under guys and makes them work with pressure. He's young, so rotation defense can be problematic and he often gets out of control on offense, but the aggressiveness he gives the team is an overall plus.

Cole's likely never going to be starter-quality, but he also has value to Miami. How things go with their big free agency this summer with LeBron James and Chris Bosh will likely determine whether they keep Cole or not.
