Eye on Basketball Podcast: Jeff 'Skin' Wade talking Mavs

By Zach Harper | NBA writer

Jeff "Skin" Wade of the Dallas Mavericks broadcasts and the Ben & Skin Show in Dallas is the guest on the episode today to talk some Dallas Mavericks basketball. Skin has been a part of the broadcast team since the 2008-09 season and is as knowledgeable about the Mavs as any analyst out there. So what are the chances the Mavericks have of making the playoffs this year? Can the defensive players on the team make up for the backcourt of Jose Calderon and Monta Ellis, that should struggle to keep players out of the paint?

If the Mavericks are going to make the playoffs, it will mean Monta Ellis has to break away from Monta Ball and be more of a secondary weapon playing off of Dirk Nowitzki. Can the Mavericks redevelop Monta the way they failed to do with Roddy Beaubois? Is Rick Carlisle working on the right things with Monta to build his confidence up? Why wasn't Beaubois able to build off of his scintillating rookie season?

We discuss all of that, plus broadcasting, Dirk Nowitzki's awesomeness, and rebuilding the franchise after their 2011 championship.

(Note: We recorded this before the news of Brandan Wright's shoulder injury but it doesn't change a lot said.)

You can listen to Jeff Wade on the Ben & Skin Show on 105.3 The Fan from 2-6pm CT every weekday. You can follow Skin on Twitter at @SkinWade.
