Jazz's Trey Burke out 8-12 weeks with broken finger

By Royce Young | NBA writer

The Jazz selected point guard Trey Burke ninth overall last draft with the idea of him finally filling a major hole the team has had since trading Deron Williams.

But it's going to be a while until they start getting any answers about if they made the right choice.

Via the Deseret News, Burke needs pins in his fractured index finger and will be out 8-12 weeks after surgery, according to his agent.

Burke injured the finger Saturday in a preseason game against the Clippers and initially was listed out indefinitely. Now that he has been evaluated, his timetable has him missing possibly close to three months of the NBA season.

Burke has been an early favorite to win Rookie of the Year, but with this setback, that might not be all that reasonable anymore. Because of the injury, the Jazz are also reportedly looking at the Bulls' Marquis Teague to fill the void because behind Burke, all Utah has is John Lucas III and Jerel McNeal. They need help there, desperately.
