Eric Gordon returns to practice

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

Alarms sounded throughout the Pelicans fan base when it was announed shooting guard Eric Goon would miss the first two weeks of preseason with issues in his troublesome ankles. Seemingly every time Gordon has missed time in the past three years, it has stretched on for months longer than anticipated.

Some good news came on Monday, however, as the New Orleans guard is back on the court.

With Gordon, the Pelicans could be a legitimate threat to make the playoffs, especially given how sophomore Anthony Davis has looked early in preseason. Reserve guard (and big free agent pickup) Tyreke Evans is out another week or two with an ankle sprain. If they can get those two back along with what looks like a much better frontcourt, the Pelicans are poised to make some noise.

But with Gordon, it's never about practicing, it's about being ready to play. Until he can consistently stay on the court (Gordon skipped back to backs even after coming back late last season), questions will remain about whether New Orleans can depend on him.

Gordon averaged 17 points and three assists last season for the Pelicans in only 42 games. He shot only 40 percent from the field.
