Grizzlies' Ed Davis fined $15,000 for 'unnecessary contact'

By Royce Young | NBA writer

The NBA is docking at least one more player before the actual season begins on Tuesday.

The league announced Monday that Grizzlies forward Ed Davis has been fined $15,000 for "excessive and unnecessary contact" on the Rockets' Donetas Montiejunas in a preseason game Oct. 25.

The play occurred in the fourth quarter with Davis fouling Montiejunas hard near his head (happens at 1:50 in the above video). Davis was assessed a Flagrant 2 for the play and ejected.

This is one of many fines and suspensions the league handed out this preseason as it clearly tries to trim down a bit on unnecessary physicality.
