Back on October 14, we found out that Utah Jazz rookie point guard Trey Burke had a broken finger on his shooting hand and was going to require surgery that could put him out for upwards of three months. Considering the Jazz are in a rebuilding mode and partially banking on Burke having a Damian Lillard-type of rookie season, they didn't have a ton of options at point guard left that would give you a lot of confidence.

The Jazz were left with John Lucas III, Ian Clark and the recently re-signed Jamaal Tinsley to fill those point guard duties before their rookie makes his debut. Although nothing is official right now, it looks like Lucas will get the nod as the starting point guard Wednesday night for the season opener. His name was on a game notes sheet that was handed out by Jazz PR, according to Steve Luhm of the Salt Lake Tribune.

Lucas is the only veteran point guard on the team that has had a full training camp with the team. With Tinsley signed just a few days ago, he hasn't had the proper conditioning or time with everybody on the team, even though he should be relatively familiar with them. Tinsley played for Utah the past two seasons, starting 33 games total. Ian Clark had a breakout summer league in Vegas, but doesn't have the experience the Jazz are looking for in their starter.

The Jazz open the season Wednesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
