The concern with the Washington Wizards has been the health and depth of their interior. With Emeka Okafor suffering a disc problem in his neck before the season started, the Wizards ended up trading him to the Phoenix Suns for Marcin Gortat in order to make sure they had plenty of healthy big men for this season. It looks like that won't completely fix the depth issues inside for Washington though.
Michael Lee of the Washington Post tells us that Nene will not play against the Miami Heat Sunday night and will have an MRI to figure out what's wrong with his left leg. He's been experiencing pain in the lower half of his injured leg.
Nene will not play vs MIA. Will have MRI on Mon to see what's wrong with left leg. Pain extends from calf to Achilles' tendon #wizards— Michael Lee (@MrMichaelLee) November 3, 2013
This means the Wizards are already at a loss when it comes to big men they can trust on the court. Trevor Booker and Kevin Seraphin will have to play heavy minutes for the Wizards until Nene is healthy enough to return. We may also see Jan Vesely play some "stretch-4" even though he's not actually a guy that can stretch the floor. This seems to be the consistent plight of the Washington Wizards.
The Wizards had realistic playoff hopes heading into this season because of a backend of the East playoff picture looking completely wide-open. But if the injuries are going to start piling up to the Wizards' key players, it's going to be highly unlikely they are able to pull off a postseason appearance.
