Rockets' Omer Asik out a week with bruised thigh

By Royce Young | NBA writer

The Rockets will be without center Omer Asik for a few games as he recovers from a bruised thigh, the team announced.

Asik, who has been part of swirling trade rumors for a while now, has played in Houston's last eight games as Dwight Howard's backup.

Without Asik, the Rockets will likely lean on smaller lineups with Donetas Montiejunas and Greg Smith likely seeing time backing up Howard.

Asik, 27, is averaging 4.4 points and 6.8 rebounds in 17 games this season.
