Warriors' Jermaine O'Neal playing through wrist injury

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

Warriors center Jermaine O'Neal has been a pleasant surprise for Golden State this season. Despite the ripe old age of 35 and multiple knee surgeries, O'Neal has been a consistent contributor for the Warriors. And it turns out his contributions are even more impressive, since he's been playing with a torn wrist ligament. From the San Jose Mercury News:

Jermaine O'Neal has been playing with a sprained right wrist, which is technically a tear of the ligaments, but there are no plans for the Warriors backup center to have surgery.

The severity of the injury is unknown, as the Warriors aren't saying. O'Neal, according to team sources, has had the wrist checked out a few times, the latest examination coming Monday.

O'Neal knows that he has precious few seasons left, and surgery could effectively end one. So he's playing through it, and playing well. He's not looked to as a go-to scorer, so the injury can be mitigated somewhat. And hey, his left wrist is apparently feeling pretty OK:

O'Neal is averaging seven points and five rebounds per game for the Warriors this season.
