Blazers rookie C.J. McCollum cleared for full practice

By Royce Young | NBA writer

The Trail Blazers are already really good. But they're close to making a midseason addition that might make them even better.

The team announced on Friday that rookie guard C.J. McCollum has been cleared for full contact practice drills, which means a return could be really close.

McCollum has been out since training camp because of a broken foot. He never had an official timetable, but recently started working in 3-on-3 drills a few weeks ago. And without any setbacks, is progressing to 5-on-5 stuff.

There are some concerns though because it's the same injury he suffered in January while still in college that kept him out 10 weeks and caused him to miss the remainder of the NCAA season.

Putting him in Portland's rotation would only strengthen an already improved bench, and add him to a stacked backcourt featuring Damian Lillard, Wesley Matthews and Mo Williams. McCollum is an excellent perimeter shooter and was an elite scorer in college.

McCollum, 22, was taken 10th overall by the Blazers in last June's draft.
