NBA says Blake Griffin should not have been ejected on Christmas

By Zach Harper | NBA writer

During the fourth quarter of the battle between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day, Blake Griffin and Andrew Bogut got tangled up in each other's sleeves. A little skirmish followed and Griffin was ejected for picking up his second technical of the game. Bogut was assessed a flagrant-1 foul on the play and allowed to remain in the contest.

The video doesn't show much of anything that should result in Griffin being given a technical foul -- his second of the game -- and Thursday the NBA admitted it was a mistake by the officials. The league released a statement saying a common foul should have been called on Griffin and a technical should have been given to Bogut for wrestling:

“After a league review of the Clippers-Warriors game, we have come to the conclusion that Blake Griffin should not have been ejected from the game. A common foul should have been called on Griffin for initially attempting to dislodge the Warriors' Andrew Bogut and a technical foul should have been assessed to Bogut for grabbing Griffin by the shirt and wrestling with him.”

The Warriors ended up winning the game 105-103 over the Clippers. The Clippers could have used Griffin for the rest of the game, considering he had already tallied 20 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists in his 33 minutes of action.
