Grizzlies' Zach Randolph: it was 'eight against five' vs. Rockets

By Zach Harper | NBA writer

Memphis Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph will be opening his checkbook to the league office pretty soon. Following Thursday's loss to the Houston Rockets, Randolph had no issues blaming the refs for his team's demise. The Rockets shot 40 free throws in the entire game with James Harden going to the line 25 times just on his own. The Grizzlies as a team attempted only 20 free throws and felt like they received the short end of the stick.

Randolph claimed it was "eight against five," referring to the officials being against his team. In the fourth quarter alone, Harden managed 11 points on ust one field goal attempt. He went to the free throw line 11 times in that quarter. Only two of those attempts came with the Grizzlies attempting to extend the game by fouling and one of his 11 fourth quarter attempts came from a technical foul on Randolph with 1:26 left in the game. Randolph was whistled for the tech for complaining to the officials.

The Rockets' 20 fourth quarter free throw attempts matched Memphis' total for the entire game. When the Grizzlies were at the free throw line, they didn't do themselves any favors. They missed nine of their 20 attempts. Houston used a 34-20 fourth quarter to take control of the game and improve their record to 20-11 on the season.
