The Clippers announced Sunday that point guard Chris Paul is out up to six weeks with a Grade 3 AC joint separation. No surgery is needed for the All-Star who suffered the injury Friday vs. the Clippers.
Paul is averaging 19.6 points and 11.2 assists this season for the Clippers who were destroyed by the Spurs Saturday night in their first game without Paul. Darren Collison starts in Paul's stead, just as he did in 2010 with New Orleans when Paul missed time.
The injury could very well take him through the All-Star break, leaving Paul's starting spot open. Paul will be out during a stretch in which the Clippers face a seven-game road trip in mid-January, face the Pacers, Warriors, and Mavericks, and in early February host the Heat. How they weather this stretch could have huge impacts on their playoff seeding.
