ESPN reports that Suns guard Eric Bledsoe will require knee surgery and is out indefinitely. The move comes after Bledsoe failed to secure an extension with the Suns and just as the Suns were starting to push for a top-five playoff spot in the tough Western Conference.

Phoenix Suns guard Eric Bledsoe, one of the leading contenders for the NBA's Most Improved Player award, is out indefinitely after the team determined that Bledsoe needs a surgical procedure to repair cartilage in his right knee, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that the exact scope and severity of the injury will not be known until Bledsoe is in a surgeon's care, but he is suspected to have suffered meniscus damage in his Dec. 30 return to Los Angeles to face the Clippers.

Bledsoe, 24, is averaging 18.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game this season for the upstart Suns.

OK, seriously. Rajon Rondo, Russell Westbrook, Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, Marc Gasol, Al Horford, Brook Lopez, Danilo Gallinari, Eric Bledsoe, the list goes on and on. This season may not statistically be the worst in NBA history for injuries, but it certainly feels like it.
