Celtics assistant coach to run in Boston Marathon

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

A Boston Celtics assistant coach will be running in the Boston Marathon a year after three people were killed and 264 injured in a bombing at the event's finish line. From the Boston Globe:

Jamie Young was about to go for a run.

“That's when I saw all the breaking news,” the Celtics assistant coach said.

On that April Monday last year, Young stepped off the treadmill at the Celtics' practice facility in Waltham and hurried to check in with his colleagues.

Young was concerned, because he knew that Doc Rivers, then the Celtics coach, and forward Jeff Green were both living in downtown Boston.

For the next few days, the city was locked down as authorities searched for the suspects who bombed the Boston Marathon.

On the one-year anniversary of the bombing this April, Young plans to again go for a run, only this time in the Boston Marathon. It would be his first marathon of any kind.

The event is certain to be an emotional one, and expect many of Boston's professional athletes to show their support.
