CBS to premiere 'Summer Dreams' doc about NBA Summer League

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

CBS is set to premiere Summer Dreams, a documentary about the NBA Summer League and the life of rookies and fringe players competing in the annual summer exhibition event. The two-hour special will debut Saturday, March 15 on CBS.

The special will feature 76ers rookie Michael Carter-Williams, along with Mavericks rookie Shane Larkin.

"The NBA Summer League is an incredibly colorful event in which team owners, general managers, coaches, lottery picks and longshots all convene in Las Vegas to pursue their hoop dreams," executive producer Mike Tollin (Coach Carter, Smallville) said in a statement. "With unprecedented access, we'll witness hopes dashed and dreams coming true right in front of our eyes."

The series will look at players struggling to make the league as well. Summer League sets a unique backdrop to the league, telling the story of young players trying to impress coaches and GMs and players desperate to make a roster. All of it goes on in Vegas while superstars often vist for leisure or in advance of Team USA practices. It's a haven for hardcore basketball fans and the stories in play are compelling at every turn.

Carter-William provides a great look at a player who was expected to struggle and instead has driven himself to contending for Rookie of the Year honors.
