Sporting News reports that the Celtics were close to trading Brandon Bass for Omer Asik, and continue to have their priorities set on trading the veteran power forward before the February 20th trade deadline.
Celtics forward Brandon Bass was nearly traded once this season—to the Rockets, in a deal that would have brought back Houston center Omer Asik—and sources have told Sporting News that Bass remains the most-discussed player on the Boston roster ahead of next Thursday's trade deadline.

The report lists the Warriors and Bobcats as potential suitors. Word leaked Monday that the Warriors are open to trading all but two of their players and the Bobcats have been aggressive in the buyer's market already in advance of next Thursday's deadline.
The Warriors want bench upgrades, but getting a deal done without moving reserve Marreese Speights is going to be tricky. Is Bass an upgrade over Speights? That's debatable, but he's at least more seasoned and consistent.
Bass is averaging 10.8 points and 5.8 rebounds this season for the rebuilding Celtics.
