LeBron: Space Jam 2 would be 'great', would battle Monstars

There were reports on Friday that Miami Heat star LeBron James was going to star in the sequel to Michael Jordan and Warner Bros' 1996 movie Space Jam. Those reports were quickly refuted by sources close to James that there wasn't a sequel to Space Jam or a Warner Bros project in the works. That doesn't mean James wouldn't be open to the idea though.

The Palm Beach Post has quotes from James this past weekend saying that while he hasn't heard anything about a Space Jam sequel, he'd be open to the opportunity of starring in the second coming of a movie he loved as a kid.

Q. There were conflicting reports about you starring in a Space Jam remake.

JAMES: “It's news to me. I haven't heard anything about it. Like I said, I've always loved Space Jam 1. It was one of my favorite movies growing up. If I have the opportunity, it'd be great. But that's news to me. Obviously I don't want to be on there with this thing on my nose [note: a reference to his currently bandaged, broken nose]. We'll see what happens.”

Q. No one's approached you about it?

JAMES: “I haven't heard about it. Maybe they've got it in my office. I haven't been to my office in a while.”

And of course, here is a key question:

Q. Does a matchup with the Monstars freak you out at all?

JAMES: “Absolutely. Those guys are very intimidating and they're bigger than us. We've got to do our due diligence here on Earth.”

The sentence, "We've got to do our due diligence here on Earth," when describing LeBron possibly confronting playing cartoon basketball players is probably one of the intangibles that needs to be factored into the MVP debate this season. If this project went through, it would be likely to gross hundreds of millions of dollars, much like the original.

Hopefully, they don't case Kevin Hart as the Bill Murray or Muggsy Bogues roles.
