USA Today reports that former first-round pick Royce White could be making a return this season, with the Sacramento Kings.
The Sacramento Kings recently worked out 22-year-old forward and mental health advocate Royce White and are likely to sign him to a 10-day contract, two people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.
The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because no deal had yet been finalized.
White's first stint in the NBA was a disaster, as he clashed with coaches and management over team-approved treatment for his anxiety disorder. He was suspended when he refused to report for assignment in Rio Grande Valley for the Rockets' D-League affiliate Vipers. He never played a game for Houston, eventually being traded last summer in a salary dump to Philadelphia and subsequently waived.
White has maintained the problem has been between what his doctors feel is best for management of his anxiety and the team's ideas thereof, but the perception seems more in line with him trying to exert demands over an NBA team without having proven he's a valuable player yet.
Maybe this news trip with the Kings can change things for his career. We're not holding our breath.
