LeBron James erupts against Bobcats for career-high 61 points

More: MVP impact? | Twitter reacts | LeBron shows efficiency | Heat win 124-107

Every now and then, it's like LeBron James does this intentionally, as if to just remind us all of something.

In the end: a career-high 61 points on 22-of-33 shooting, 8-of-10 from 3, with seven rebounds and five assists. LeBron's previous career-high of 56 came in 2005 against the Raptors. And he also broke Glen Rice's Miami Heat franchise record of 56 points.

"The man above has given me some unbelievable abilities to play this game of basketball," LeBron said in his postgame interview. "I try to take advantage of it each and every night."

Oh, and the Heat won their eighth straight, 124-107 over the Bobcats. And if you're keeping score at home, the Bobcats, who are sixth in the league in defensive efficiency, have now allowed the two top individual scoring games of the season as they gave up 62 to Carmelo Anthony in Janaury.

LeBron didn't necessarily start hot, putting up 11 early with 24 at halftime. But things really got interesting in that third quarter where he went off for 25 on 9-of-11 shooting, while hitting 5 of 5 from 3. In that third quarter, the score was LeBron 25, Charlotte 25. LeBron started the game 8 of 8 from distance before missing his final two to finish 8 of 10.

With the Heat up by double-digits, extending the lead to more than 20 at different times, the only thing that was going to stop LeBron from hitting 60 was going to be him checking out early. But the Bobcats did him a favor by keeping is moderately close -- Al Jefferson was wonderful in his own right with 38 points and 19 rebounds -- as played the majority of the fourth, finally checking out with two minutes left.

The performance was obviously electrifying, especially when you consider that LeBron scored almost half of his team's 124 points.

Plus, he was wearing the (clear) mask while he did it. Probably could've gone for a hundred if he didn't have that darn thing on.
