Eye on Basketball Podcast: The structure of the MVP race

By Zach Harper | NBA writer

Ethan Sherwood Strauss joins me on this fine Friday to discuss his disdain for the MVP race. Ethan would rather we celebrate the best player as an award, rather than trying to figure out what is more valuable than another. It would eliminate trying to figure out who is the third most valuable player in the league when we have a two-horse race. Is this the proper way to award the best individual season each year? Is it better to have the narrative surrounding value?

Steve Nash has been documenting the end of his career and doesn't want to retire for a multitude of reasons. Are these reasons actually acceptable or should he be criticized in the same way we'd criticize other athletes? Is race a factor here or is it simply a sign of our values as a society changing to keep up with the evolving technology? Is he controling the story in a way we don't often get to see?

We discuss all of this, plus registering your wit, gravity boots, and a lot more.
