Yahoo Sports reports that Houston Rockets starting point guard Patrick Beverley has suffered a torn meniscus and is out indefinitely.

It's a huge blow to the Rockets if Beverley is unable to get back anytime soon. Jeremy Lin has been in a huge slump offensively and the Rockets were counting on Beverley's defense against the West's point guards.

The question with the meniscus is whether to repair it, which takes longer to heal and has more long-term impacts on health, or remove it, which could get him back in weeks but compromises his longterm mobility.

The Rockets are a game out of the fourth seed in the Western Conference standings.

Beverley of course famously made a play on the ball as Russell Westbrook was heading to call timeout in last year's playoffs. Westbrook suffered a torn meniscus on the play, missing the rest of the playoffs.
