After Kentucky lost the national championship game to the UConn Huskies on Monday night, Kentucky coach John Calipari tried to snuff out the rumors of him taking a potential Lakers job (which hasn't opened yet), a yearly tradition in college sports.

"The Lakers have a basketball coach. Kentucky has a basketball coach. I got the best job in the country. I'm not going to even dignify that stuff," Calipari said.

On Monday before the game, former Wildcat Rex Chapman tweeted the following:

The Lakers almost immediately denied the idea, with Mitch Kupchak telling the LA Times that there had been no discussions. Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni has faced criticism as the team barrells towards the wost record in franchise history, and reports have indicated Kobe Bryant has "no interest" in D'Antoni returning as coach.

But for now, the public word at least is that there's no fire to Rex Chapman's smoke.
