The Golden State Warriors have contacted Stan Van Gundy about their head coaching position a day after dismissing Mark Jackson, according to Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears.
No interview has been set up, according to Spears, but both sides have interest. Van Gundy, a Bay Area native, reportedly has not shown interest in the Los Angeles Lakers' or Minnesota Timberwolves' coaching vacancies.
Van Gundy has support "in several corners" of the Warriors organization, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. The team also has Steve Kerr on its list, and the New York Daily News' Frank Isola reported that Golden State owner Joe Lacob prefers Kerr to Van Gundy despite his lack of coaching experience.
As a head coach with the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic, Van Gundy displayed an ability to adapt his style to his personnel. Fans frustrated with the Warriors' unimaginative offense under Jackson should already be giddy about the possibilities for Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and company should Van Gundy end up on Golden State's sideline.
