The Cleveland Cavaliers are at the contract-negotiation stage with David Griffin for their general manager position, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Schmitt Boyer and ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

Griffin took over as interm GM after the Cavs fired Chris Grant in in February. They interviewed "four or five serious candidates" and decided to go with Griffin, via the Plain Dealer.

Two weeks after he stepped into the role, Griffin traded Earl Clark, Henry Sims and two second-round picks to the Philadelphia 76ers for Spencer Hawes. Cleveland had a late-season surge, but was unable to make the playoffs.

"The fate of coach Mike Brown is still not clear," according to the Plain Dealer.
