While the New York Knicks and Steve Kerr are reportedly close to a deal, maybe it won't be as exorbitant as originally thought. The Knicks have been hesitant to pay him like a "star," according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski:

A report this weekend indicated Kerr was seeking a five-year deal and salary similar to when Mike D'Antoni signed on as the Knicks coach for $6 million per season six years ago.

The two sides discussed a five-year, $25 million deal "earlier this month," according to ESPN.com, but "terms have likely changed several times since then" because of interest from the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors haven't had substantive talks with Kerr "in days," according to Yahoo Sports, and reportedly believe that Kerr has his sights set on New York.

Kerr's plan has been to work through the Western Conference finals for TNT, but there have been reports that the Knicks would like him to attend this week's draft combine in Chicago with Phil Jackson assuming that a deal is wrapped up shortly. It sounds like, while the contract details are taking some time to get sorted out, it's more a matter of when than if.
