New Detroit Pistons president and head coach Stan Van Gundy has some roster decisions to make, none bigger than how he plans to deal with Greg Monroe's upcoming restricted free agency. While a report from the Sporting News' Sean Deveney indicated Monroe's time was up in Detroit, at his introductory press conference on Thursday Van Gundy didn't sound like he was going to let the talented, soon-to-be-24-year-old big man walk:

Van Gundy also appeared on Orlando radio station AM 740 The Game on Thursday, and described Monroe as "probably a top-10 big guy in this league," via Detroit Bad Boys. He called Monroe on Tuesday night after finalizing the deal with the Pistons, according to the Detroit Free Press' Vincent Ellis.

None of this necessarily means that Monroe will stay in Detroit next season. It just means that it is a possibility. Monroe's agent, David Falk, famously found a maximum contract for Roy Hibbert in 2012, and will try to do the same thing for Monroe, according to the Sporting News. It is unclear how Van Gundy and the Pistons would handle such a development, and working out a sign-and-trade might end up being mutually beneficial. The free-agent market for Monroe and the trade market for forward Josh Smith should determine Van Gundy's course of action.
