Isiah Thomas is in discussions to become a minority owner of the Detroit Pistons, according to Vincent Goodwill of the Detroit News. Thomas and Pistons owner Tom Gores got to know each other during the Bad Boys reunion in March.

"Not a ceremonial piece, but a respectable piece," was how a source with knowledge of the negotiations termed the potential deal.

The discussions began after Joe Dumars stepped down as the team's president. Although Pistons owner Tom Gores targeted Stan Van Gundy to become the coach and president of basketball operations, he still wanted to partner with Thomas in some fashion.

Thomas has not had a stake in a team since he was with the expansion Toronto Raptors. Although his last stop in the NBA did not end well in New York, Thomas is still beloved in Detroit. Back when he retired as a player in 1994, he wanted to invest in the franchise, but it didn't work out between him and then-owner Bill Davidson.

He endorsed the hire of Stan Van Gundy as president and head coach this week, via Terry Foster of the Detroit News.
