The Los Angeles Lakers interviewed Kurt Rambis about their vacant head-coaching position, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times. They are conducting a deliberate search to find a successor to Mike D'Antoni, who resigned last month.

The Lakers have now interviewed Rambis, Byron Scott and Mike Dunleavy, and plan to meet with Alvin Gentry on Wednesday and Lionel Hollins on Thursday.

The team remains on a slow march toward a replacement for D'Antoni and might eventually sit down with about 10 candidates.

Rambis served as an assistant under D'Antoni this season, and before that was the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2009 to 2011. Those two years in Minnesota were taxing for the franchise, as Rambis ran the triangle offense with a roster ill-equipped for it and the team compiled a 32-122 record.

The Lakers have a long history with Rambis. He played for Los Angeles from 1981 to 1988 and from 1993 to 1995, winning four NBA championships. He served as a Lakers assistant coach from 1994 to 1998, from 2001 to 2004 and from 2005 to 2009, and as an interim head coach in the the lockout-shortened 1998-1999 season after Del Harris was fired.

The Times story says that Lakers players enjoyed working with him last season, but those relationships change when shifting to the head-coaching seat. It is unclear whether or not Rambis would want to run the triangle again, or if his philosophies have shifted since his stint with the Wolves. One would hope that he'd do things differently.

Kurt Rambis is a longtime Laker, having served as a player, head coach and assistant.
