Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert had his appendix removed on Monday, the team announced on Tuesday. The surgery was performed after he was examined in Santa Barbara, Calif., where the team sends its players to train at a facility called P3. He is on the way back to Salt Lake City:

There is no timetable for his return, via the Deseret News' Jody Genessy, and it would be quite a setback if he was to miss the opportunity to play for Utah's summer league team. Gobert is a project in every sense of the word, long and lean and unable to make much of an impact as a rookie. He averaged 2.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 9.6 minutes this season, making 45 appearances for the Jazz and shooting 48.6 percent from the field, 49.2 percent from the free throw line.

All of those numbers were dramatically better in his eight games with the D-League's Bakersfield Jam, and it is safe to assume he will be spending significant time in Idaho next year. Gobert will turn 22 years old later this month.
