UPDATE: A judge denied Shelly Sterling's bid for an injunction on Thursday, saying in a statement that the comments from Donald Sterling do not "rise to the level of great and irreparable injury to a party as called for in the Code of Civil Procedure," via the Associated Press.
The Sterling saga is getting even crazier. Shelly Sterling has asked a judge for protection for her legal team as well as the doctors who came to the conclusion that Donald Sterling was "mentally incapacitated," according to the Associated Press' Linda Deutsch.
The request was filed early Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court. There is no immediate word on whether it will be granted.
The filing claims that on June 9 Donald Sterling called Shelly Sterling's attorney, Pierce O'Donnell, threatened lawsuits and stated, ''I am going to take you out, O'Donnell.'' The filing says O'Donnell understood that to be a death threat.
The document also alleges statements by Donald Sterling threatening the licenses of the doctors and a letter from one of his attorneys claiming the physicians are part of a conspiracy.
The finding that he was "mentally incapacitated" opened the doors for Shelly Sterling to become the sole trustee of the Sterling Family Trust, which owns the Los Angeles Clippers, and negotiate a sale to Steve Ballmer for $2 billion. Donald Sterling and his lawyers contend that he is mentally fine and this should not have happened, and there is a trial scheduled for next month to resolve the dispute between the Sterlings. The doctors could testify at the trial.
There were "several incidents" in which Donald Sterling or his representative threatened the doctors, according to the AP's Tami Abdollah. ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne has more on the threatening voicemails left by Donald Sterling:
