Here's the latest on what's out on the web on the NBA Draft with three days to go before Thursday.
• Here's a weird one. Michigan center Mitch McGary and his agent basically shut down everything over the weekend. No workouts. No physical despite his back issues. Nothing. Which of course fueled speculation that the big man has a first-round (guaranteed money) promise. And on Tuesday, ESPN reported that the Hornets with the 24th pick are the culprits. So presumably they would play Cody Zeller at backup power forward (assuming they re-sign Josh McRoberts), and then give McGary Bismack Biyombo's minutes at backup center. Which is weird, since Biyombo legitimately improved last season.
• K.J. McDaniels is a likely top-25 pick in Thursday's draft. Our own James Herbert takes a look behind the scenes of his life and family to see how an NBA prospect is made from birth.
• Elfrid Payton continues to skyrocket up the board, with the Boston Globe reporting he won't get out of the top 10. That sounds a little bit insane for a guy who struggles finishing at the rim and from range, but the length, athleticism and ability to run the pick and roll is tempting folks.
• The Pelicans are reportedly trying to trade into the first round to grab a center or small forward. The Pels traded their first-round pick to the Sixers (No. 10) for Jrue Holiday last season along with Nerlens Noel.
