Hood was one of the best shooters in the country last season, knocking down 42.0 percent of his 3-pointers. The left-handed wing was a transfer from Mississippi State two years ago. He flourished in his year under Mike Krzyzewski. He was the second leading scorer for the Blue Devils next to Jabari Parker.
The Jazz have depth and insurance in case Gordon Hayward is too expensive for them in restricted free agency. Hood should be able to play right away for the Jazz at either wing position. He was projected by many to be picked in the lottery or just outside of it.
Matt Moore of CBSSports.com loves this pick for the Jazz.
Jazz: A+: Steal at this spot at a position of need. Can score, create off the dribble. Good defensive upside, surprisingly.— Matt Moore CBS (@MattMooreCBS) June 27, 2014
After beginning his career at Mississippi State, the 6-8, 215-pound Hood averaged 16.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in his lone season at Duke, which finished 26-9 and lost to Mercer in the Round of 64.
