Washington Wizards point guard Andre Miller is due $4.6 million next season, but only $2 million of that was guaranteed if cut before July 30. The team has elected not to release him, his agent, Andy Miller, told CSN Washington's J. Michael.

Miller was acquired from the Denver Nuggets at the trade deadline this past season, and he provided some much-needed backcourt support for John Wall. He will presumably reprise that role.

Solidifying Miller's spot was made more imperative when the Wizards concluded that Tomas Satoransky, a 2012 second-round draft pick playing in Spain, would not join them for Las Vegas summer league and would stay abroad to play. Satoransky is 6-7 and would've been groomed as Wall's long-term backup.

Also, in Thursday's draft, Spencer Dinwiddie of Colorado was taken 38th by the Detroit Pistons, eight spots before the Wizards selected. Dinwiddie was the primary guard they were targeting had he dropped.

You'd normally question paying a 38-year-old backup as much as this, but Miller is a different kind of cat. He defies his age and lack of foot speed year after year to remain productive. There's no reason to think he'll be much different next season than he was this past one, especially if he's again playing only 15 minutes per game.
