The Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers reached out to Luol Deng's representatives shortly after the beginning of free agency at midnight ET on Tuesday, Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reported.
The Hawks, Clippers and Mavs led the charge in contacting Luol Deng's reps tonight, league source confirms.— Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) July 1, 2014
Deng made $14.3 million last season, and the Chicago Bulls traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers in January after they failed to agree on a contract extension. A versatile two-way player and extremely smart team defender, he's expected to attract several suitors. The question is just how much long-term salary teams will offer the 29-year-old forward.
The Hawks have all sorts of cap room, as do the Mavericks, though Dallas also has its own free agents to worry about. The Clippers and Heat are in very different situations and would have to ask Deng to accept less money in order to contend for a championship.
