Both the LA Times and ESPN report that the Los Angeles Clippers believe they can acquire free agent forward Paul Pierce from the Brooklyn Nets in light of the insanity that has gone down in the last three days with now-Bucks coach Jason Kidd.
Clippers think making move on Paul Pierce is strong possibility with Jason Kidd out of Brooklyn. Pierce played for Doc in Boston, sources— Brad Turner (@BA_Turner) July 1, 2014
Clippers, I'm told, believe they have real chance of stealing Paul Pierce away from Nets now that Jason Kidd no longer coaching in Brooklyn— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 1, 2014
The Nets reached out to Pierce right after the start of the free agency period Tuesday morning. The Nets hold his bird rights and so can re-sign him despite being significantly over the salary cap but are facing very real challenges in trying to improve their roster from last season which lost in the second round.
Pierce is considered a potential domino for the future of Kevin Garnett who reportedly wants to return for his final season of his contract with Brooklyn. A move by Pierce to LA to reunite with former coach Doc Rivers could push Garnett out the door.
Pierce would give the Clippers a versatile wing to knock down shots and provide floor balance as well as a locker room leader they've been in need of.
