Sixers' Pierre Jackson injures Achilles on first day of summer league

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Pierre Jackson injured his right achilles in the first half of their first summer league game against the Orlando Magic on Saturday.

This is awful news. The initial diagnosis, per the team is a "ruptured" achilles, according to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. He will be evaluated.

Jackson, a second-round pick in the 2013 draft, spent most of last season putting up huge numbers in the D-League, where he averaged 29 points per game for the Idaho Stampede. A player like that would have ordinarily been called up by an NBA team, but only the New Orleans Pelicans had the ability to do that and they elected not to. His rights were traded from the Pelicans to Philadelphia in exchange for Russ Smith during last Thursday's draft. It looked like he was finally going to get his shot in the NBA, but sadly this looks like that will be on hold for a while.
