Sixers' Nerlens Noel stars in first summer league game

By James Herbert | NBA writer

Nerlens Noel's debut was by far the most anticipated aspect of this year's summer league in Orlando, and in his first game the Philadelphia 76ers big man did not disappoint. After missing the entire 2013-2014 season due to a torn ACL, he started his professional career with a 19-point performance that included 6-for-11 shooting from the field and 7-for-7 (!) shooting from the free throw line on Saturday.

Noel had a huge dunk to start the game against the Orlando Magic, but the free throws might be even more exciting for Sixers fans. Noel shot 52 percent from the line in his one season at Kentucky, and Philadelphia spent last season reconstructing his form. Noel could be found working with Sixers head coach Brett Brown at the stripe before every game.

In addition to the scoring, Noel had two rebounds, three assists and four steals. It was a bittersweet day for Philadelphia, though, as point guard Pierre Jackson suffered an achilles injury.
